Welcome to a unique, informative, intelligent, indiscriminate and creative environment.

Founded in July 1997 by a group of visual effects and animation professionals, Visual Magic Magazine is one of the Internet’s most popular online magazines devoted to 3D animation and visual effects.

Feature Articles
Judith Crow, Digital Effects Supervisor for Titanic, and Volker Engel, Visual Effects Supervisor for Independence Day and Godzilla both have one thing in common (besides the fact that they have both worked on Oscar-winning movies). Both of the above mentioned artists have graced the Visual Magic Magazine pages with interviews you are unlikely to find anywhere else on the web.

We’ve talked with some of the industry’s top artists, all pioneers in their fields about what they do, how they do it, and where the industry could be going in the future. Just take a look at this list - these are just some of the artists we’ve featured over the last three years.

But that’s not all, we plan to make this list even longer, so look out for more star studded visual effects interviews coming soon to a web site near you…

Software Reviews
"I really loved the review on Character Studio 2 by Robin Lankes. I found that far more informative and revealing than other 'tutorials' that I have used. And it is far easier to digest than the manual." - Kenneth Lau

We’ve got one word for you. In-depth. Technically, that’s two words, but either way it makes for a far more informative review. We strongly believe that a product review should be just that, a review of the products features, performance, value for money, and usability. We'll tell you how the software works, how it compares to similar packages, what it is useful for, and what we really think of it.

How can we be sure that we do this? Simple. The people who review products for us are - like so many of the other things about our publication - unique. They are artists first, writers second. In fact, some of them have no formal qualifications in writing. They all have one thing in common though, one thing that makes their reviews more trustworthy that anyone else’s; they work out there, in the real world, in the 3D graphics and animation industry. They are freelancers, company owners, and hobbyists who have outstanding knowledge of digital effects and 3D. You know when you read a Visual Magic review that you are not reading the work of a journalist...but the work of someone who genuinely knows what they are talking about when it comes to computer graphics.

Masterclasses
Visual Magic masterclasses are not tutorials. They are complex articles on subjects beyond ‘modeling a hand in Lightwave.’ Take for example our article on the importance of detail. It’s a non-software specific article on techniques you can employ (regardless of platform or software…remember the part about indiscriminate!) right away. All of our masterclasses will be of this form and calibre. They will focus on useful techniques, that may or may not refer to a specific package, but all will be universal techniques that you can apply to your own work.

But don’t just take our word for all of this. Explore our site and make up your own mind!
